top ten tuesday: when youre in the mood for a classic

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted over at The Broke and the Bookish, and this week's theme is " March 1: Ten Books To Read If You Are In The Mood For X!" I like these freebie-ish weeks, because I love to see what people come up with :) For my list, I'm going to do Top Ten Books to read if you're in the mood for a classic, because I feel like I never get to talk about the classics that I've really enjoyed.

Top Ten Classics for When You're in the Mood for One

1.  Little Women – Louisa May Alcott
2. Jane Eyre– Charlotte Brontë

3. The Odyssey – Homer
4. Sense and Sensibility – Jane Austen

5. Their Eyes Were Watching God – Zora Neale Hurston
6. Leaves of Grass – Walt Whitman

7. Crime and Punishment – Fyodor Dostoyevsky
8. The Three Musketeers – Alexandre Dumas

9. Any Sherlock Holmes story – Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
10. Tess of the D'Urbervilles – Thomas Hardy

what is on your TTT this week?

  2. Fantastic TTT post. I always find classics hard to get back into and reread. Little Women & Odyssey are two of my all time favourites.

    1. I sometimes find it difficult as well... I think that I have to be in the mood and it has to be the right classic, for sure. Those are probably my top two as well!

  3. Oooh I love your topic! I need to read more classics but I just get caught up in all of the new fiction being released (especially when it's all people talk about!) The only thing I've read on this list is the Sherlock Holmes books, but I have a copy of Jane Eyre that I also really need to read. Great list :)

    1. I totally get what you mean, Helia! I guess being a literature student helps by sort of forcing me to read classics haha... Jane Eyre is actually pretty accessible if you just take the time to read it, since its pretty long! thanks for stopping by :)

  4. I keep meaning to read a classic, the last classics I read were back in high school, and those I was forced to read. I might start with some Sherlock for the first classic I read on my own.

    1. I think Sherlock Holmes would be an awesome place to start, because they're short and engaging, especially with the mystery aspect! :)

  5. It's hard for me to put classics on my TBR. Mostly because I was forced to read them in HS and college and it just turned me off... also, even the ones I did end up liking/loving took me a LONG time to get into. I don't think I have the patience to stick it out with books that are hard to figure out. Little Women I read as a younger teen and really did like it... except Amy, cause BLAH!!!

    1. I feel you on that! I definitely think the whole being-forced-to-read in HS can turn people way off reading, classics especially! Amy is definitely the worst though haha!
